The skin is the outermost layer of the body and is the largest organ in the body, based on surface area. It consists of two layers, which are the epidermis and the dermis. The dermis of the skin is made of connective tissues such as collagen and other types of protein. However, the skin tends to become wrinkled and saggy as one ages. This is because the body produces less collagen each passing year. The lower amount of collagen in the skin is what makes us begin to look wrinkled and saggy. There are many factors that contribute to this. Below are some of them;
- Sun damage: Excessive exposure to the ultraviolet rays has a negative effect on the skin. This is why it’s important to always use sunscreen to protect the skin against the damaging rays of the sun.
- Smoking: Cigarettes contain a host of harmful components that are bad for the health, and for our skin. Abstaining from smoking reduces the chances of having a wrinkled and saggy skin. In addition, we look and are healthier without smoking.
- Dehydration: Dehydration is a condition in which the body doesn’t have the adequate amount of water it needs. It is a situation in which the body lacks enough body fluid to function physiologically and normally, with metabolic consequences. This basically occurs when the body loses more water than its intake. This can be due to various reasons such as exposure of the body to excessive heat, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea, sweating too much, and when people don’t consume enough water. A body water loss of about 10% can lead to mental incapacitation, accompanied by some physical bodily changes such as dry skin, serious thirst. Severe dehydration can lead to death. - Toxins: People who expose their skin to different pollutants and toxins tend to develop wrinkled and saggy faster than normal.
- Facial expressions: It has been observed that those who use lots of facial expressions all of the time are at a risk of developing a wrinkled and saggy skin faster than normal. However, expression lines are a lovely roadmap of a person’s life.
- Sleeping on your side: In addition, people who sleep with their cheek on their pillow also have a high risk of developing wrinkled and saggy skin.

- Make use of a non-toxic moisturizer: There are different brands and types of moisturizers out there with big claims of effectiveness. However, a ton of these products is not what they claim they are. Some are bad for the skin. Below are some natural moisturizers that would improve the condition of your skin;
- Coconut oil: Coconut oil has many uses. However, one of its uses is that it helps to moisturize the skin to help eliminate any spots, wrinkles or cellulite on the skin. The best combination is coconut oil and vitamin E. Vitamin E is also a strong antioxidant.

- Sunscreen: As earlier mentioned, exposing the skin to lots of ultraviolet rays is bad. However, making use of a good sunscreen especially when the sun is excessive, helps protect the skin from damage.
