SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - The FAO, in coordination with several local entities, will launch an 18-month project to bolster institutions for Biotechnology and Bio-security Research Capacities.The Biotechnology and Industry Innovation Institute (IIBI), the Environment Ministry and the Farming and Forestry Development Center (CEDAF) coordinate the initiative, aimed at promote the safe use of biotechnology in farms, as well as to better exploit the country`s natural resources and productive potential.<br /><br />Andrea Sonnino Robert, the FAO`s senior agricultural research official in Rome and Biotechnology and Bio-security expert will present the project, designed for technicians, teachers and researchers who work in the detection of genetically modified organisms (GMO) and molecular markers, so the country gets the techniques to generate, validate, apply and transfer farming biotechnologies and bio-security management. <br /><br /><br />©Ã‚ 2008 LISTIN DIARIO
