Australian govt urged to review GM food labelling Wednesday, October 22, 2008
A group of fifteen scientists have called on the Australian government to undertake an independent review of the assessment and labelling of genetically-engineered foods.
The call comes ahead of a meeting of state and federal health ministers on Friday to discuss food labelling in Australia.
In an open letter to the health minister, Nicola Roxon, the group warns that Australia is one of only a few nations to have approved every application it has received for GE food products.
It says inadequate regulation is putting the health of consumers at risk.
