South Korea: GM soy imported
Friday, March 6, 2009

South Korean officials approved imports for LibertyLink and Roundup Ready 2 Yield Soybeans last week, making these U.S. biotech traits one step closer to South Korean markets.

A late-February announcement completed a two-year process for Roundup Ready 2 Yield and allowed full market access in South Korea.

LibertyLink Soybeans still have one more step in their process before full approval by the Korean Food and Drug Administration. LibertyLink Soybean are already approved for food, feed and cultivation in the United States and Canada and approved for import into Australia, China, the European Union, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Russia, South Africa and Taiwan.

The American Soybean Association is optimistic that LibertyLink Soybeans will receive full approval in the near future.
