Ecogerma: Brazilian
Sustainable Technologies Firms
Find Solid Partners in Germany
SAO PAULO- Germany's success in sustainable technologies will be the centerpiece of this year's Ecogerma trade fair in São Paulo, Brazil from March 12 - 15. The conference will bring industry leaders together with representatives of one of the world's fastest growing markets for sustainable technologies. Ecogerma is organized by the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs) in Mercosur together with the German Embassy in Brazil and the German Consulate General in São Paolo.
Germany is well positioned in sustainable technologies, an industry that covers a broad range of industries and themes. This sector is currently buttressing Germany's economy during the global downturn, as seen by its steady growth levels and continued investment. Germany has the largest photovoltaic (PV) market in the world, a world market share of 24 percent in recycling technology and 40 percent of sustainable water management. Additionally, Germany continues to be one of the top global players in wind and biofuels.
While avoiding many of the problems facing other countries, the Brazilian government has responded swiftly to global economic challenges. Within its stimulus program PAC (Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento), which took effect in 2007 and has been increased in 2009 and again for 2010, Brazil will support the energy sector with over Real (R$) 759 million (approximately EUR 250 million). These efforts hope to boost the industry despite the economic downturn.
Brazil is globally recognized as a leader in biofuels, making German and Brazilian industry representatives natural partners. Total industry turnover in Germany was EUR 10 billion in 2007 with EUR 2.4 billion invested in the industry in the same year.
Germany is the largest consumer of bioenergy in Europe with a share of over 16 percent in total bioenergy consumption of all EU-27 countries. By 2030, the industry aims to cover 18 percent of power and 15 percent of heat consumption by bioenergy.
Ecogerma allows potential investors to take advantage of the latest developments in the industry and to meet with other experts. Representatives from Germany Trade & Invest will be on hand to answer questions and offer assistance to Brazilian firms looking to enter German markets as well as German exporters looking to invest overseas.
