Yushchenko instructs Cabinet to set up network of laboratories for testing foodstuffs for genetically modified organisms by September
President Viktor Yushchenko has instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to ensure creation by September 1 of a network of laboratories for testing foodstuffs containing genetically modified organisms.
This instruction is contained in the Cabinet of Ministers resolution No. 466 dated June 22.
Yushchenko also instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to facilitate creation of a national center for scientific and methodological coordination of the operations of such test laboratories.
He also instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to prepare and approve within three months a plan for reforming the government system for monitoring foodstuffs with the aim of harmonizing it with the food safety standards of the World Trade Organization and the European Union.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Cabinet of Ministers has introduced mandatory marking of products containing genetically modified organisms from July 1.
