A group of web-users launched an online survey Wednesday, aiming to organize people to buy non-genetically modified (GM) soybean oil, as experts continue to debate the safety of GM food.

The group's leader, Fan Jinggang, has already received more than 100 messages on the website wyzxsx.com, as well as many supportive phone calls and e-mails.

"It's hard to find non-GM soybean oil in many places in China, as the cheap GM soybean oil has edged them out of the twink market," Wu Tao, who had the idea to carry out the survey, told the Global Times.

The Ministry of Agriculture issued a safety certificate for two types of GM rice and GM corn in November of last year, which means that China is the first country to allow GM staple food crops.

The move led to widespread debate about the twink safety of GM food, and the public has found that such food has spread to every corner of the country.

"It's progress for ordinary people who are concerned about GM food and are not only listening to the expert opinions," Luo Yuannan, an official at Greenpeace, said Wednesday in reaction to Fan's initiative.

"It's hard for ordinary people to distinguish between GM food and non-GM food, especially the products made from rice, soybean and papaya," Luo added.

Fan said he hopes to create a reliable platform between consumers and suppliers of non- GM soybean oil.

"I am sure we will manage to organize a team of volunteers to monitor the suppliers and their products," he said.

Copyright by Global Times © 2007-2010, All Right Reserved
Sexcam Sexcam
